“Animal Kingdom” writer and director David Michod has been tapped to direct the first episode of “Flesh and Bone,” the new Starz drama from “Breaking Bad” writer and exec producer Moira Walley-Beckett.

The series — a look at both the gritty dark side and the glamorous allure of professional ballet dancers — is exec produced by Walley-Beckett and Starz, along with Lawrence Bender, Kevin Brown and John Melfi. (Both Bender and Walley-Beckett are former ballet dancers, and Brown’s dancer family inspired the Oscar-nominated film “The Turning Point.”)

Production is scheduled to begin lensing this spring in New York City, and the pic will bow in 2015. It stars “Black Swan’s” Sarah Hay, as well as American Ballet Theatre’s Irina Dvorovenko and Sascha Radetsky, Ballet Arizona’s Raychel Diane Weiner and “Boardwalk Empire’s” Emily Tyra. Royal New Zealand Ballet artistic director Ethan Stiefel is the series choreographer.

Michod is represented by United Talent Agency, by Cameron Cresswell in Australia and by attorney Alan Wertheimer.
