'Report,' 'Stuart' sequel also make waves

The “Harry Potter” and James Bond juggernauts earned vast sums overseas at the weekend, but they weren’t the only sizable money-makers.

Entering their final major markets, “Minority Report” scored impressively in Japan (although trailing mercurial holdover “Harry,” which is playing on far more screens) and “Stuart Little 2” snacked heartily in Brazil.

“Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” sold roughly 10.8 million tickets at more than 10,500 screens, amassing an estimated $60.1 million, Warner Bros. reported Sunday. That propelled the foreign cume to $287.7 million and the worldwide total past $500 million.

The Hogwarts kids fetched an estimated $13.6 million in five days on 1,073 screens in France, outranking the original in admissions by 15%. WB is due to confirm today where it stands among the all-time openers but believes it’s outperformed “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” by 51%, “Spider-Man” by 56% and “Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace” by 22%.

Close to original ‘Potter’ bow in Italy

In Italy, the wiz conjured an estimated $5.8 million on 548 screens (commanding nearly 80% of the market), neck-and-neck with the first “Potter’s” bow, excluding sneaks.

Showing remarkable resilience in Spain, “Chamber of Secrets” dipped by an estimated 21% in its second weekend, nabbing $4.6 million. That brings the territory total to a stellar $11.3 million.

In its second outing in Australia, the Daniel Radcliffe starrer captured $2.7 million, despite a drop of more than 50%, upping cume to $10.1 million, tracking slightly below “Sorcerer’s Stone.” Mexico contributed $2.5 million, for a socko $8.4 million in 10 days.

‘Secrets’ a success in Japan

Warner projected “Secrets” would rank as No. 1 in Japan for the third straight weekend, raking in $8.5 million on 847, and a huge $54.3 million to date.

Through its fourth laps, the fantasy-adventure was reckoned to have mustered a phenomenal $65 million in the U.K. and $45.5 million in Germany.

In Oz, the wiz probably almost certainly lost some auds to rookies “Blue Crush” (which made about $700,000) and “The Santa Clause 2” ($588,000).

“Die Another Day” minted an estimated $23 million at the weekend, hoisting cume to $97.5 million, per Fox Intl. The Pierce Brosnan/Halle Berry starrer gave Fox its biggest debut ever in South Africa ($449,000 on 87, also a Bond record), its second largest in Malaysia ($531,000 on 79) and its third best in Singapore ($887,000 on 54).

Bond stirs up $37 mil in U.K.

The action-adventure has racked up an estimated $37 million through its third lap in the U.K., $16.9 million after its second in Germany (falling by a reasonable 32%) and $7 million through its third in Spain (off just 20%).

“Minority Report” pre-figured an estimated $6.5 million on 470 in Japan, Fox’s fourth highest preem locally, elevating cume to $184.5 million.

The “Stuart Little” sequel picked up a tasty $525,000 on 305 in Brazil, lifting the cume to $99.7 million.

“The Ring” remake rang up an estimated $730,000 in its first two days in Mexico, a promising start for a pic that has proven staying power.
