The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday, December 6, declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) the winner of the Cross River by-elections in Obudu constituency. PDP candidate Maria Godwin Akwaji defeated her All Progressives Congress (APC) rival, Abor Adaje Godwin.
INEC Chief Electoral Officer, Prof. Abel Ezeoha, announced on Sunday that while Akwaji received 32, 166 votes, Godwin received only 3, 546 votes, Channels TV reported.
Maria is the wife of the late Akwaji, a state legislator who died in June 2020.
