MAURY CHRISTIAN / CORBIS

Purportedly a Catalan sheepdog in cubist style inspired by Picasso, Cobi turned out looking more like a nude androgynous flesh monster. Designed by artist Javier Mariscal, he was (understandably) the subject of great controversy when he was unveiled, but remarkably went to become one of the most profitable mascot in the history of the modern Olympic games. Cobi starred in his own TV show, The Cobi Troupe and his image was used to market products like Coca-Cola and Danone.
